20 people from 14 different countries joined forces over the last few days during the Women Win Girl Empowerment Through Sport workshops here in Cape Town, South Africa. The topics discussed took on dimensions of sport for development previously touched upon only in small doses, as the team looked at ways in which sport can tackle issues such as gender based violence, the deconstruction of gender roles and even female genital mutilation (FGM).

Africa’s most innovative and resourceful organizations were present at the workshops, led by the Women Win team. Women Win is recognized as a leading global organization using sport as a strategy to advance women’s rights. Other organizations present were WAR Child, NOWSPAR and Moving the Goalpost, three incredibly inspiring organizations involved in the sport for development field in Africa.

Girls & Football SA has learned a lot from other organizations on the continent and is keen to use this knowledge not only to expand our curriculum, but also to work together to reach common goals for girls’ empowerment through sport.
