Girls & Football SA is thrilled that the Supreme Court has ruled gay marriage as a constitutional right in the United States.

In South Africa, the progressive constitution promulgated by then-President Nelson Mandela on December 10th, 1996, stipulated equal rights for LGBT South Africans. This post-apartheid constitution was the first in the world to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation, and South Africa was the first country on the African continent – and the fifth country in the world – to legalize same-sex marriage.
