Contrary to the sun we often enjoy in Cape Town, our participants kicked off the new season on rainy fields. But despite the wet weather,  the Girls & Football SA participants from St. Paul’s Primary School were excited to start training again!

Before starting the game, we briefly touched on the experiences of the tournament, and chatted about what activities the girls had participated in during their break. Our very motivated players mentioned they wanted to keep playing despite having time off from school…! The first question raised by the eager players was regarding when they would be playing the next match.

Our training started with a quick exercise as warm up; instead of running on the wet fields, we opted for shots on the goal, and similar exercises. After diving the girls into two teams, we also played a mini match and were very pleased to see the progress the girls have made since their first training. Both teams were playing very well and succeeded in keeping the balls out of the nets until the last moments of the game. In what was a very exciting last few minutes, one of the teams got a free kick. The free kick was taken in the high left corner of the goal and resulted in a final score of 1-0.

After the game, there was a brief discussion on what went well and how we could play better the next time around. Despite the few long faces of the team that lost the game, we were all very content with the course of the day and are all looking forward to the next training and tournament!
